Homeland Security Degree

The Homeland Security degree was recently designed to meet the ever-increasing needs for public safety in communities across the country. The term homeland security was coined to communicate the strong effort by all levels of government - federal, state, local and tribal to protect our country from internal as well as external hazards, natural and man-made, as well as the Department of Homeland Security itself. This renowned term became all too familiar after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to the United States. Prior to this event, the phrase had limited utilization.Graduates of the homeland security program are skilled in critical thinking and analysis, teamwork, history and philosophy. There are several segments that compose the framework for homeland security, starting with emergency preparedness and response for both terrorism and natural disasters, which include volunteer medical, policing, emergency aid and fire personnel. The additional sectors include domestic intelligence activities, critical infrastructure protection, border security, including land and maritime, transportation security, including aviation and maritime, bio-defense and detection of nuclear and radiological materials.
